KBS – FX Open Asia Drift Challenge 2010

On the weekend, I’ve had the opportunity to cover local drift event, KBS – FX Open Asia Drift Challenge. Organized by Feintodrifters, this event give the opportunity for novice drifters to strut their oversteering stuffs against a few seasoned campaigners early in the season, a few months before major drift competitions kick starts.

This competition starts on mid day and continues into the night. Spectators keep coming in through the night, even a slight heavy rain can keep’em away as the competition switch to night drifting knockout stage pitting top 32 qualifiers.

This is Mohd Riduan @ Wan Boss from Feinto D Drift Team. He managed to finish 3rd overall on his Nissan 180SX. One of the drifter to watch in the future.

Ivan Lau of  Team Bridgestone Malaysia grabbed 2nd place ahead of Wan Boss. He’s been one of the best drifters for the day and entertained the crowd with superb angle and producing a lot of smoke every time he ran the course.

This is Ivan Lau latest ride, AE86 Coupe. He had been drifting with AE86 Levin for quite some time before trashing it beyond repair.

Ultimately Fazreen Ismail @ Along Rempit triumphed over the entire field to be crown champions of KBS – FX Open Asia Drift Challenge 2010. Fazreen represents Team FX Open Asia, driving Nissan Cefiro A31 which has been the highlights of the competition with new FX Open livery.

Fazreen drifts on into the night. One of the most consistent drifters, he managed to nick the top spots from crowd favorite’s Ivan Lau when Ivan made a slight mistake on their final tandem battle.

This event manage to gather a lot of participants from across the country. Hopefully many more competitions like this one will be organize in the future to unearth new drifting talents.
