Last weekend the Redline Time Attack series teamed up with Import Alliance to show Nashville what the growing motorsport is all about. The Nashville Superspeedway hosted the two day shootout, a track usually reserved for Nascar or Indy Series races. Like many other oval tracks, the winding infield was used along with nearly half of the track’s banking front straight away where the racers were able to reach speeds well over 100mph, testing the limits of their gearing and boost pressure. jump to gallery
At the same time, the Import Alliance crew put the word out for everyone to come out and experience a different kind of car meet. It was far from a traditional gathering, with no awards for best looking ride or flashiest underglow given out (though many of the same rides were found later on Saturday up at HIN). No, this event was set up to get back to what being a car guy is all about, sharing that passion with out enthusiasts no matter what your whip looks like or how much hp it puts out. A fun time was had by all, and to top things off, Import Alliance even conducted a project car build during the two day event, turning a lowly civic into a pristine throwback. Check out the white wall tires in the gallery. Back on track, the time attack was really coming down to the wire. As the track continued to warm up and the cars found their ideal settings, classes such as Modified AWD and Stock RWD were decided by only tenths of a second. Scott Bush in the BC Racing Infiniti G35 came away with 1st in both the Modified and Unlimited RWD classes, while James Eltermann in the Takata Subaru Sti gained valuable series points by taking 1st in the Modified AWD class. Ross Miller in the PTuning Scion tC also came away with honors in two classes, finishing 1st in Modified FWD and 2nd in Unlimited FWD. The big story of the day however was Luke Russell in the Top Speed Subaru Impreza. Running uncontested in Unlimited AWD, Luke was able to really push his car and finished with a new track record of 1:03.702.
