Formula Drift returned to Road Atlanta for the 5th year running to show the Southeast what it means to get sideways. As in previous years, the treacherous turn 10 and the specially paved horseshoe loop were used for the course, bringing things close enough so the crowd of over 10,000 didn’t miss a second of the action. Somehow they got their hands on one of 300 cars being produced and give their (albeit soft) impressions of a rare car that we wish we got here in the US even though it would probably never sell as it goes for about 30,000 Euros (converted from yen as it’s only sold in Japan).

Nick Bollea was sentenced to eight months in prison on charges of reckless driving from a street racing incident that left his 1998 Toyota Supra wrapped around a tree and a passenger critically injured. The jail time begins immediately and Bollea will also have five years of probation and a suspended license for three years. Bollea is the son of the Hulkster, who was also in attendance of the hearing dressed in black, head-to-toe (including his signature stocking cap). The lawsuit is still pending. Yesterday the Speed Lounge was down in Atlanta to attend a screening of the Drift Alliance’s latest film: “Stay Hungry.” The film chronicles some of the greatest moments of 2007 both on and off the track for members of the team, most notably Chris Forsberg, Vaughn Gittin Jr., Ryan Tuerck, and Tony Angelo. Like any good drifting film, it features some of the most exciting on-car camera action of any film that has come out of the racing world. Englishtown, NJ May 7, 2008 - This weekend for the first time NOPI came to Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in English Town, NJ. For the first time out NOPI definitely pulled of an outstanding event. This season hasn’t been the best for NOPI when it comes to weather and this weekend was no different. Saturday the weather was cold and misty for most of the day which means the event and action wasn’t as packed full as it could have been. The forecast looked much better for Sunday though and by 11AM the skies had cleared up and the event was filling with spectators. Well it appears that Sony Europe is working with Nissan to provide a GT Academy that will allow gamers to get some real world road racing experience. Details are sketchy right now but here’s what Kotaku’s got:
Every step of the academy will be filmed and later made available on the Playstation Network.
It sounds like it’s connected to a contest that will give two luck people a four-month, real-life racing tutorial and then have them participate in the Dubai 24-hour race in January.

NOPI made it’s way up to the Northeast to entertain a huge crowd of die-hard drag racing fans. It was at Atco Raceway located in New Jersey where the drag racers came to put a fresh coat of rubber on the 1320.
