That’s right! The Daytona Motorsports Group is changing the class structure for 2009. There will be 3 classes for next year:
- Daytona Superbike: 600cc
- Literbike: 1000cc
- Moto-ST: V-Twin
It’s not official which class is the headliner but what HAS been announced is that all of the classes will have a Spec Tire and Spec Fuel. Plus the Superbike will have a “regular” ECU which I can only surmise to be a Spec ECU while Literbike will keep rules that were established last year. They also have some rules in place to minimize the number of people that compete in the Literbike class.
I gotta say that I’m pretty excited about this as current AMA racing is dull when you watch the 1000’s. It should be interesting to see how this turns out for the manufacturers. If Superbike becomes the premier class, then we might actually see some non-Suzukis when for a change.
